Sustainability Report: New Environmental Goals, Cummins’ Role in Passenger Rail, Top 2014-15 Report

"I don't believe a true picture of a Company's sustainability can be told just in numbers or just as a narrative," said Blair Claflin, Director of Sustainability Communications at Cummins. The report's cover story is on the success Cummins has had in the passenger rail market in North America with the Company's QSK95 and QSK19-R engines. The two engines have been chosen for major rail projects in Florida (U.S.A.), Toronto (Canada) and suburban San Francisco, California (U.S.A.).

The Company announced new goals for environmental sustainability for its products in use and its internal logistics. Both goals call for the Company to make improvements by 2020.

Meanwhile, the report updates progress on the Company's goals for water use, recycling and energy and greenhouse gases (GHG). The recycling and water goals are tied to 2020 while the energy and greenhouse gas goals are tied to 2015.  Data shows Cummins is close to reaching the energy and GHG goals and has made significant progress on its waste and water goals. The Company had an especially good year in 2014 on water conservation.

The more than 130-page report also looks at how the Company did in 2014 in corporate responsibility, safety, right environment (diversity and diversity procurement) and governance.

Cummins released an Executive Summary of its progress report and announced it would be producing a Sustainability Data Book for stakeholders who are most interested in the numbers surrounding the Company’s sustainability initiatives.
