Lowering Cost of Production

In the mining industry, controlling the cost of production (COP) is critical to maintaining profitability. A significant aspect of controlling COP is minimizing equipment downtime and maintenance. Cummins PrevenTech® addresses these issues directly, offering a proactive, data-driven solution to improve equipment reliability and ultimately decrease the COP. PrevenTech meticulously monitors various engine parameters such as fluid health and operating conditions, constantly collecting and analyzing data to optimize equipment performance. This detailed data analysis can pinpoint where the system is underperforming, leading to recommendations for fuel-efficient operational practices or part replacements that improve overall engine performance. PrevenTech’s ability to remotely connect to an engine and extract data, can not only help operators to extend safe service intervals, but also allow for Elimination of Live Work (ELW), since excessive contact with the machine is reduced. Hence, PrevenTech can lessen the risks associated with servicing equipment, keeping miners and Cummins technicians safer.

By optimizing the usage and performance of equipment, you could extend the lifecycle of components, resulting in lower replacement and maintenance costs. Beyond maintenance and operations, PrevenTech's cloud-based reporting also supports cost management. Detailed reports, analytics, and trend data provide crucial insights for strategic planning and decision-making processes. With this information, mining operations can better allocate resources, more effectively plan maintenance, and make data-driven decisions that improve their bottom line.

Decreasing Downtime

The need for mine operators to optimize production and maximize uptime has never been higher. By leveraging advanced telematics and proprietary algorithms, PrevenTech provides real-time remote monitoring and reporting on equipment health. This not only helps detect potential issues early but also enables proactive measures to be taken before the equipment fails.

One of the key capabilities of PrevenTech is its in-depth engine performance monitoring for mining equipment. The system utilizes a comprehensive set of sensors to monitor various engine parameters and continuously collects data to build an accurate picture of the engine's health and performance.

PrevenTech’s cloud-based reporting and alerting capabilities provides teams with immediate notifications on their computers and smart devices of any performance anomalies, meaning that operators can be notified of any impending issues, ensuring timely response and action. These features significantly reduce unscheduled downtime, ensuring mining operations continue to run efficiently.

Moreover, this remote monitoring and reporting solution offers insightful reports, analytics, and trend data that help in decision making and strategic planning for maintenance activities. Having a better understanding of equipment health helps mining operations extend equipment lifecycles, reduce operating costs, and improve overall productivity

Condition-Based Maintenance

Cummins' PrevenTech is designed with the unique challenges of the mining industry in mind, where every moment of downtime directly affects the bottom line. By leveraging its data analytics suite, PrevenTech revolutionizes how condition-based maintenance is conducted, helping operations strategically optimize maintenance intervals, reduce waste, and proactively manage routine activities like oil changes. Instead of adhering to a schedule, maintenance can be performed exactly when needed. This data-driven approach significantly reduces unnecessary maintenance activities and premature disposal of consumables, leading to less waste and more efficient use of resources.

As mentioned above, PrevenTech offers advantages when it comes to oil changes. PrevenTech tracks oil temperature and pressure, providing insights into the condition of a machine's oil. This allows operators to determine precisely when an oil change is necessary. This proactive approach ensures that oil is only changed when needed, therefore extending service intervals and encouraging ELW, since non-critical contact with the machine is eliminated. The proactive approach also helps with reducing waste and costs associated with unnecessary activities. Through these capabilities, PrevenTech empowers mining operations to maximize efficiency, improve their COP, and drive profitability.

Mantenimiento preventivo

At the heart of PrevenTech's effectiveness is its robust prognostics feature. By continuously monitoring a vast array of engine parameters, PrevenTech collects a wealth of real-time data that feeds into its advanced analytical algorithms, which can accurately predict potential failures, providing an early warning to maintenance teams. This early detection allows maintenance teams to proactively manage issues, scheduling repairs during planned maintenance periods instead of reacting to unexpected breakdowns. As a result, PrevenTech's preventative maintenance approach significantly reduces unplanned downtime, enhancing the overall efficiency and productivity of mining operations.

PrevenTech empowers mining operations to transform their maintenance strategy from a reactive approach to a proactive one. PrevenTech is not just enhancing maintenance practices; it's redefining them to ensure a more profitable and sustainable future for mining operations. Water crisis

Sixty Cummins Inc. CustomPaks are in service in Thailand as part of a critical water management plan aimed at easing the country’s water crisis – a crisis that has caused enormous economic and social damage and stirred conflict among communities.

En las últimas décadas, Tailandia ha enfrentado continuamente problemas de agua causados por una grave sequía. Water reserves in dams and reservoirs are insufficient while water resources are often contaminated with toxins caused by urban communities and the industrial and agricultural sectors.

Severe flooding is a threat, too, at a time when the realities of climate change are hanging over the country.

As a result, the allocation of precious water resources, which must be shared among various stakeholders including new and existing industry, large and small agriculture, and cities and villages has become a flashpoint.

Kittithanapat Engineering Co. (KTP), has been involved in the water management system since 1996, working closely with authorities such as the Royal Irrigation Department, Department of Water Resources, Bangkok Metropolitan Authority and others.

To help KTP meet its often urgent requirements, Cummins DKSH (Thailand) has recently supplied 60 Australian-built CustomPaks - 45 powered by Cummins' X15 engine rated at 600 hp, and 15 powered by the QSL9 rated at 325 hp. These fully self-contained powerpacks are emissions certified to Tier 3.

The CustomPaks are coupled to hydraulically-driven, large-volume submersible water pumps sourced by KTP from US company Moving Water Industries (MWI); KTP is the exclusive distributor in Thailand for these MWI Hydroflo pumps.

Prior to Cummins’ involvement, KTP was using another diesel engine brand but service support wasn’t up to the standard required.

Long-serving KTP engineer Kittisak Thanasoot says Cummins DKSH’s reputation for technical and aftersales support along with the reliability of the Cummins product were a key reason behind KTP’s decision to specify the CustomPaks for the Royal Irrigation Department.

The ability of Cummins DKSH to respond to short delivery times was also important.

“Supplying large quantities of high horsepower diesel engines for emergency situations such as flash flooding can be a challenge for KTP,” says Kittisak Thanasoot.

“Responding to the needs of the government agencies to manage such problems in a timely manner and with least impact on communities, KTP has found the answer in our partnership with Cummins DKSH.”
