Cummins Makes Dow Jones North American Sustainability Index

Cummins has been named again to the North American Index of the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices, one of the leading independent measures of corporate sustainability in the world.

The company was one of fewer than 150 corporations to make the North American list in 2016. It has made the index every year since 2006.

The Dow Jones indices are prepared by RobecoSAM, the world's leading investment firm focused exclusively on sustainability, based on an extensive survey of a company's performance on economic, environmental and social issues. RobecoSAM invites the world's largest 3,400 companies from developed and emerging markets to participate in its annual assessment.

“The Dow Jones Sustainability Indices are comprehensive benchmarks of companies that meet RobecoSAM’s sustainability standards and give investors tools to develop global allocations that reflect sustainability factors,” said David Blitzer, Managing Director and Chairman of the Index Committee.

Cummins was one of just 12 companies named to the North American Index in the Capital Goods sector, joining 3M Co., Bombardier Inc., Caterpillar Inc., Fluor Corp., Ingersoll-Rand PLC, Lockheed Martin Corp., Northrop Grumman Corp., Rockwell Automation Inc., Rockwell Collins Inc., Stanley Black & Decker Inc. and United Rentals Inc.  Cummins’ total score was just one point short of the minimum total score necessary for inclusion on Dow Jones’ World Index.

The survey covers 19 individual topic areas, ranging from codes of business conduct and corporate governance to climate strategy and environmental reporting, and corporate citizenship and occupational health and safety.

Cummins scored at or above the world list average on corporate governance and codes of conduct, innovation management, climate strategy, environmental policy and management systems, operational eco-efficiency, occupational health and safety and talent attraction and retention.
