Celebrating Earth Day 365 Days a Year

cummins earth day

At Cummins, our mission demands that "everything we do leads to a cleaner, healthier and safer environment."

We have an unwavering commitment to produce the cleanest and most fuel efficient products in the world. We view new regulations not as a burden but rather as an opportunity to leverage the full extent of our technical expertise and leadership on behalf of our customers.

Cummins is equally committed to reducing the Company’s environmental footprint as part of our Corporate Responsibility value to “serve and improve the communities in which we live.” We believe building stronger communities will ultimately result in stronger markets for our products and so is critically important to our sustainability as a company.

As you'll see by clicking on the infographic to the right, Cummins employees around the world are committed to ;producing the cleaner, healthier and safer world we all desire. To honor this commitment and to celebrate its 90th anniversary, Cummins created the Environmental Challenge in 2009. Five years later, employee engagement in the Challenge has increased over four times.

Environmental Impact

In 2014, 62 total Environmental Challenge projects reduced the equivalent of 22,370 metric tons of greenhouse. That's the equivalent of:

  • 4,709 vehicles removed from the road for a year
  • 2.5 million-plus gallons of gasoline conserved
  • 573,584 trees planted or saved from deforestation
  • 8,000-plus tons of garbage diverted from landfills

Throughout 2015, we'll continue to highlight our 2014-2015 Environmental Challenge award-winning projects on this blog. The project types range in size, scope and geography - from a major cleanup project at one of the largest urban parks in the United States, to a project dedicated to reducing the total number of coal burning cook stoves in China - but they all have one thing in common: They're led by Cummins employees and Community Involvement Teams that are dedicated to addressing environmental concerns in their communities.
