A feasibility evaluation was completed in November 2016 for a proposed regional stormwater treatment facility to be constructed along the west side of the Little Wekiva River, south of Lake Lotus Park and State Road 414 (Maitland Boulevard), and west of Campo Way and Riverside Acres Subdivision.
The main objective of the project is to reduce stormwater pollution and improve water quality within the Little Wekiva River. Stormwater will be diverted from the Little Wekiva River and discharged to a new pond that will also provide treatment for drainage basins associated with Magnolia Homes Road and Calloway Drive. The new treatment pond will flow to an existing wetland which in turn will discharge to an existing dry retention pond that currently provides stormwater management for an offsite parking lot associated with Lake Lotus Park.
The final design phase of the project commenced in October 2020 and is anticipated to be complete in October 2022.
Public engagement is an important aspect of this project and Orange County's objective is to get the community involved. The County will conduct several neighborhood meetings during the course of the final design contract to exchange information and obtain feedback from stakeholders and the general public.
